"I took that comment as a response to some real mud-slinging and panic that was happening in the comments. Some commenters seized the opportunity to air their grievances with Ellora’s Cave and with Christine B."

Hmm, I never thought of it that way, but if I remember correctly, that comment was the second one posted--at least at DA, don't know about SB. Still, you have a point, and it didn't take long for the EC naysayers to come out, but like I said in an earlier comment, I really don't think this will be anything more than a tiny blip on EC's radar--if that!

Thanks for commenting and...well, I won't thank you for giving me another blog to read, but I clicked on yours and let's just say it caught my interest. At this rate, I'm never going to get any writing done.

Oh, I know what you mean, Shiloh. I've pulled way too many late nighters since I got back from vacation, but there's just so much going on right now with Amazon, DAM, and several e-pubs behaving like idiots. I get sucked in and forget about the time!

And it doesn't help that my muse is canoodling on the beach with the hero of my current WIP, and it doesn't look like they're thinking of coming back anytime soon!

“Just because one former employee of Ellora’s Cave has a beef with the company is no reason to slam mud at either Brashear or the principals at Ellora’s Cave.”

I took that comment as a response to some real mud-slinging and panic that was happening in the comments. Some commenters seized the opportunity to air their grievances with Ellora's Cave and with Christine B.

In a different vein a few commenters feared Ellora's Cave might fold, or assumed that this lawsuit meant Ellora's Cave was one of the "bad guys" of e-publishing. Some of that strikes me as tarring Ellora's Cave with the same brush as, say, Triskelion--which doesn't make sense, as the scales of the businesses AND the legal issues are completely different. In that regard, I agree with "Just because one former employee... has a beef with the company...". As you say, so far it doesn't sound like anything that should affect authors or readers.

we need sites like DA, SB, etc. Also, the fact that women being the predominant force in in the e-publishing business is a good thing, rather than a bad thing as so many people have said.

I can't disagree. We definitely do need them.

;) I'm very frequently not clear but I was also reading blogs way past my bedtime, so chances are my brain is and was muddled.

I agree, this is between Brashear and EC's owners, but it is news and I commend DA and SB for posting about it. And yes, there were a few commenters who called Jane to task for posting about it, saying (among other things):

"Just because one former employee of Ellora’s Cave has a beef with the company is no reason to slam mud at either Brashear or the principals at Ellora’s Cave."

I don't know about you, but I consider the "slam mud" part of that comment a slap at DA for posting about something that is, as Jane says in her response, "completely newsworthy."

Anyway, what I was getting at here (and I apologize for not stating it clearly enough, I just came back from vacation and I think I left my brain behind in Florida!) is we need sites like DA, SB, etc. Also, the fact that women being the predominant force in in the e-publishing business is a good thing, rather than a bad thing as so many people have said.

Once again, sorry for not making it clear, and btw, I think this is no more than a tiny blip on EC's radar, nothing for the authors to worry about or as you say, even get involved in.

Caitlyn, I haven't read as much on the SB's board about this, but in general, I don't think the commenters at the DA blog are slapping at DA so much as saying that it's between CB and EC's authors.

That's how I view this~it's between Crissy Brashear and EC's owners. Newsworthy? Yeah, but just a lot of people are interested doesn't mean I really want to discuss it.

Chances are it has authors tense. I write for both of them. I definitely want to know what comes of this.

But I'm not going to speculate over it. I'd recommend, and already have, that authors of both places just let it stay between the involved parties. Nothing good will come from us (the involved publishers' authors) getting involved. Just my opinion, but I think that's where many of the comments on the DA board are stemming from.
